Internships

LOCAL INTERNSHIPS

NATIONAL (SUMMER) INTERNSHIPS

Students are strongly encouraged to consider the UCSB Washington Center Academic Internship Program. Provides 12 units of upper division credit involving a weekly seminar and independent research project combined with a full-time internship. The selection for international organizations is huge. Consult with the Campus Office in North Hall for quarterly information meetings and further details.

Apply to this incredible organization for internships as part of your UCSB Washington Center program. This organization provides a variety of proactive resources and programs for eliminating sweatshops, social investing, living green and more.

Department of State Internships
Provides unpaid internships with a variety of bureaus and offices with some options in embassies overseas during the summer months especially. Highly competitive program. Program and application booklets available at Career Employment Area at Career Services. Deadlines: SUMMER: November 1 FALL: March 1 SPRING: July 1

Human Rights Watch internships
Human Rights Watch investigates and seeks to promote human rights worldwide.

Knowledge Internships at The World Bank Group
World Bank’s focus is on adopting, adapting, and applying knowledge in a way that helps World Bank staff, clients, and partners work more effectively to reduce global poverty.

INTERNATIONAL INTERNSHIPS

Education Abroad Program
Most career related internships re part of existing Study Abroad programs where credit is possible for the volunteer experience. See EAP IN THE FIELD for options by country. It might be possible to negotiate 199 independent research credit for such field work that is supplemental to the year, semester or summer study abroad curriculum. Be sure to visit the UCSB EAP Campus Office in 2nd Floor South Hall.

To insure transfer of credit from a non-UC study abroad program, your program must be accredited or recognized by the Ministry typically indicated on the program website. For questions or concerns, contact the UCSB Office of Admissions, Barbara Cogan at cogan-b@sa.ucsb.edu or Dianna Stream at stream-d@sa.ucsb.edu.

Internabroad.com
Search by country, city, type of work and length of stay. Most internships are connected to study abroad programs. Click on Short-term Jobs or Adventure Jobs for options after graduation. Also, see annotated links under “International Internships” under the INTERNSHIP SECTION of this website.

Travellers Worldwide
Travellers arranges voluntary work placements overseas. These projects are open to everybody from 17-99, and all nationalities are welcome! You can volunteer in Argentina, Australia, Bolivia, Brazil, Brunei, China, Cuba, Ghana, Guatemala, India, Kenya, Malaysia, Peru, Russia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Zambia or Zimbabwe. Travellers projects are very flexible (2 weeks - 1 year) and varied. All your food and accommodation and in country transfers and transportation are included in the cost as well as excellent 24/7 support and back up staff. You will receive plenty of preparation information and support before your departure and Travellers will keep in touch throughout your project to ensure you are happy and well on your placement. Your volunteering contribution benefits the community and provides a lifetime experience that is safe and structured for the volunteer. Fundraising is available for all projects.
