Internships

The Communications Department offers a quarterly class Applying Communication to the Internships in Organizations, Com 191B, for four upper-division units. Students must be concurrently enrolled in local part-time internship experience available in the GauchoLink database for registered UCSB students. Students participating in unpaid entertainment or media related internships will want to participate in the Certificate Internship Program at Career Services. This evaluation program is offered on-line to intern employers To insure that your experience meets legal requirements. Stop by the Career Employment Peer Desk for details.

Academy of Television Arts & Sciences
Provides approximately 30 paid summer internships in 27 different areas of the TV industry. More than 1,000 students apply nationwide each year. Deadline is mid-March.

Ad Club of Los Angeles Summer Internships
Provides an on-line internship application and placement service for students seeking summer internships in the Los Angeles area.

AAF Advertising Internships
Links to the 4As and international association intern programs. Internships directory on reserve in the Career Employment Area Bookshelves. Only $20 if you want your own copy.

Associated Press Internships
Work for an associated press closest to home.

Entertainment Industry Internships
Internships in film and broadcast arena.

NAB Scholarship & Internships

PBS Internship Program
Internships located in the DC area. Combine experience with the UCSB Washington Center Program.

While most UCSB students do not go directly into graduate or professional school, it is often a good idea to take the GRE during or right after graduation. GRE test booklets are available FREE in the lobby at Career Services. CLAS offers practice tests for this. National Communications Association

National Directory of Human Resources Graduate Programs
Provides links to more that 114 masters programs including a quick reference by degree type and location.

Not all professional fields require the MBA or MA. In some cases, students are able to obtain the necessary professional training required for a given field by participating in the weekend and evening programs offered through the UC CERTFICATE PROGRAMS at the campus closest to them.

As the "Unifying Voice for Advertising," the American Advertising Federation (AAF), headquartered in Washington, D.C., is the trade association that represents 50,000 professionals in the advertising industry.

International Communications Association
The International Communication Association was formed in 1950 bringing together academicians and other professionals whose interest focused on human communication.

Public Relations Society of America
With the vision to unify, strengthen and advance the profession of public relations, the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) has established itself as the pre-eminent organization that builds value, demand and global understanding for public relations.
