Local Area Internships
Local internships are typically one quarter, ten week,
10-15 hour per week commitments.
However, some employers require a two quarter commitment
given training required. Click on “How to Apply
and Get Credit” section for what to do next.
The
following strategies can be used to find local, part-time
internships:
1) UCSB GAUCHLINK INTERNSHIPS
Log into your Gaucholink account using
your username and password and click on Jobs/Internships on the top
tab and then Advanced Search also at the top of your
menu and use the following fields to focus your search:
Position
Type: Select internship. Students also seeking
part-time employment may wish to select both to see
a wider range of career-related options.
Job Functions: Select the job functions you seek. To make multiple
selections hold the Control (CTRL)
key
Location: Highlight CA. To search locally,
type in Santa Barbara first and then search again
under
Goleta
for additional options.
Tips: Click on the Favorite
tab to the right of the internships you think look
interesting
for
future
reference and review. Create a search agent
for the criteria
you’ve already selected and type a title
into the Save As field and click the check box
at the top.
Click the schedule button in the Options column
to receive new jobs automatically through your
email on
a weekly basis.

Beginning fall, there
will be a convenient volunteer database of community
agencies searchable by
career category to better determine where you
can develop
career-related experience.
- Volunteer Opportunities
in SB County
Click on find a volunteer opportunity by zip
code and issue area. Click on detailed search
and get
matched by your personal interests and availability.
4) USING CRAIGSLIST AND GOOGLE
- Craigstlist Santa Barbara
Search by career categories of interest and then check
the intern box on the top of the page to see if internships
are available. Check part-time employment for paid
positions. Conduct your own Google search for local
area industries you seek (Example: Santa Barbara
Real Estate). Inquire directly with firm's owner
or human resources department as to possible internship
