Local Area Internships

Local internships are typically one quarter, ten week, 10-15 hour per week commitments.
However, some employers require a two quarter commitment given training required. Click on “How to Apply and Get Credit” section for what to do next.

The following strategies can be used to find local, part-time internships:

1) UCSB GAUCHLINK INTERNSHIPS

Log into your Gaucholink account using your username and password and click on Jobs/Internships on the top tab and then Advanced Search also at the top of your menu and use the following fields to focus your search:

Position Type: Select internship. Students also seeking part-time employment may wish to select both to see a wider range of career-related options.

Job Functions: Select the job functions you seek. To make multiple selections hold the Control (CTRL) key

Location: Highlight CA. To search locally, type in Santa Barbara first and then search again under Goleta for additional options.

Tips: Click on the Favorite tab to the right of the internships you think look interesting for future reference and review. Create a search agent for the criteria you’ve already selected and type a title into the Save As field and click the check box at the top. Click the schedule button in the Options column to receive new jobs automatically through your email on a weekly basis.

2) OTHER UCSB DEPARTMENTAL INTERNSHIP PROGRAMS

3) OTHER INTERNSHIP OPTIONS WITH VOLUNTEER AGENCIES

  • A.S Community Affairs Board
Beginning fall, there will be a convenient volunteer database of community agencies searchable by career category to better determine where you can develop career-related experience.
  • Volunteer Opportunities in SB County
Click on find a volunteer opportunity by zip code and issue area. Click on detailed search and get matched by your personal interests and availability.

4) USING CRAIGSLIST AND GOOGLE

  • Craigstlist Santa Barbara
Search by career categories of interest and then check the intern box on the top of the page to see if internships are available. Check part-time employment for paid positions. Conduct your own Google search for local area industries you seek (Example: Santa Barbara Real Estate). Inquire directly with firm's owner or human resources department as to possible internship projects. Also, see “HANDOUTS” in this section for additional ideas.)
